For Volunteers

Who runs Service Raleigh?

Service Raleigh is organized, planned, and executed by students. It is the largest student-run service organization in the Triangle area, involving over 1000 volunteers annually. It is also one of the university's fastest growing service organizations, having doubled in size since its beginning in 1998.

How can I get involved in Service Raleigh?

The easiest way to get involved is to volunteer. Register as an individual volunteer or as a group, and you will be contacted with further instructions as the event approaches. If you represent a local business wishing to donate resources or if you represent a local organization wishing to request volunteers for a service project, feel free to contact us to learn how you can become an integral part of our annual day of service!

What if I'm not an NCSU student?

That's ok, we want you, too! One of this year's primary goals is to increase partner registration to maximize community volunteer involvement. We welcome you and all your friends and family, young and old.

What will I do?

Have tons of fun, make new friends, potentially get your hands dirty, and leave with the satisfaction of benefitting your community. What you will actually do will depend on your specific site and partner organization. Just to whet your palate, you may be gardening, helping with beautification projects, packaging food, or helping out around campus.

When is it?

This year, Service Raleigh is on Saturday, April 6th, 2024.

Why should I volunteer?

The better question is: Why not? You get a free t-shirt and light morning snacks, fresh air, and the satisfaction of hard, beneficial work with friends. Plus, you're helping to strengthen our community. What more could you ask for?

Can I volunteer with my friends?

The more the merrier! You can sign up with your group or create a group for your friends so you're all assigned to the same site. If you create a group on the Service Raleigh website, then you are in charge of letting your group know the name of your group that they can use to sign up.

Will I need my own car?

Maybe. Your site leader will coordinate transportation. We encourage carpooling as much as possible.

Will lunch be provided?

Maybe. Some sites will provide lunch for their volunteers. You will get more information after registration. Regardless, we will provide you with a light morning snack to get your day of service started!

What are my responsibilities as a site leader?

The site leader is in charge of all volunteers who have been assigned to their site. This includes the site leader's group members (if they are part of a group), members of all other groups volunteering at that site, and any individual volunteers who have been assigned to that site. The site leader is also responsible for communication with the partner, handing out t-shirts to volunteers, and arranging transportation. Finally, the site leader is responsible for leading a meaningful conversation and reflection about service after completion of the service project. Service Raleigh will notify site leaders of their position after applications have been reviewed.

What if my organization wants to host volunteers?

If you or your organization want to host volunteers, you will plan out a project that volunteers will complete (beautification, mulching, walking dogs, stuffing envelopes, anything!) when they come to your organization on our day of service! Remember, volunteers will give you three hours of their time, so please make sure your project can be completed during that time period!
